Dudley came with his family to Canada, when they migrated from Vermont, U.S.A. as United Empire Loyalists. They came about 1800 They first settled on the land owned by the Moore family in Eardley. Later he had his own land. He lived near his brothers and sisters in Eardley, Que., then known as Lower Canada. His first four children were born in Rutland, Vermont.
