Notes for Henry Patterson
Checking available issues of the Cornwall Freeholder, it was noted Henry Patterson was proprietor in 1852 and the next issue available, 1857, Isabella was proprietor.
The 1851 census indicates he was born in Scotland. From the list of birth places of his children, it appears he was in Lower Canada (Quebec) before 1849 and moved to Cornwall about that year.

Henry Patterson, Printer, is shown in the Montreal City Directory 1842-43 on St. Dominique near Lagauchetiére St. Also, a Robert Patterson, also a printer, is listed. Possibly a brother. Henry is also listed in the 1845-46 Montreal Directory as a printer at 7 At. George St. He is not listed in the 1847 directory.

The 1851 census shows Henry and family are members of the “Free Church.” In the household were Mary Cox born Ireland, Roman Catholic, age 26; Sean(?) Anderson, Apprentice born Upper Canada, Church of England age 19; Samuel Moore, Apprentice born Lower Canada, Church of Scotland age 15; George Touzeau, Printer, born Guernsay, Free Church age 29.
